If you have not played NWN2 yet, then you need to. The game play is polarizing in my opinion. Travel is kinda strange in this one.  CA would not work well with this new travel system. You would reveal to much and exploration would almost be out of the question. Remember though, I am going back a while since I last played.

The major con is that my server is linux and there is not a dedicated linux server for NWN2. It is underpowered to run a virtual machine with Windows and the game. Plus I am not buying a copy of Windows just to host NWN2. The other con that I have is that the machine I do have to play this on can only do so with the graphics at its lowest setting. Even still some battles are choppy. You are going to have to have a decent video card and MB/CPU/MEM combo.

There is a lot more to the game. More spells and such. Storyline of the single player game is nice. For a single player storyline based play the travel system is quite nice.

AnyWay ... kinda back on topic ... I wanted to open up the forums/site to just about all games and not completely dedicated to NWN. I don't mind if it is a big part of it.
What do you think about that? Suggestions perhaps?

Strangly my post didn't show up but who knows... about NWN2 i think it is a very useful idea to move foward. i havent been able to get nwn2 so i am unsure about the gameplay and such directly.

If anyone doesnt mind bringing me up to speed about NWN2 and the pros and cons i would be sure to help either by hosting things or helping in some development where I can.

(Sorry for the crappy grammer... its late and my day off Tongue

I don't have a PayPal account just yet. I must admit I am slacking. I will try to get one up by weeks end or next week, just in case.

NWVault is a good one. I am not big into other games to know if there are others for different games. It was a concept that I was thinking of as a potential.

Money is tight for loads of US citizens, and I am in the same boat, so I understand.

That is one of the reasons, after so long of not having ads on the site, that you see the Google Ad. The hope is that if I can generate more traffic, I can get something to help CA move forward.

Thanks for your thoughts ...

Now would be a good time for europeans to make donations, because the US-dollar just made its new low value record in 2008, compared to the Euro. At the moment you can get 15.68 USD with as little as 10 euros! That doesn't seem much at first, but when you put a couple of zeros to the sums, it starts to add up.

Unfortunately I'm personally out of cash too. Could barely pay my rent, but things are starting to improve soon. Does CA have a PayPal account for accepting donations?

If you know good 3rd party websites, go for it. The only one I know is NWVault.

I am guessing that you are not alone. I would also imagine that the NWN2 online community has been slow because some of the biggest and most popular sites ran NWN on Linux.  For a good reason to. NWN on Windows was a bit dodgy, where as a Linux dedicated server was relatively stable.

My thought was to have a 3rd party website that had forums and such where people can rant or praise as they saw fit over a range of different games.

The biggest reason that my NWN2 sits unplayed is that I don't have much time anymore. I would love play testing my own site, but would want to run the server on linux for many different reasons.

What do you think?

BTW ... CA was never dead. Just that hardware started failing more often and I just haven't had money to buy new one. So I took down NWN to save on resources so that email and the website stayed up.

I am hoping with b-day money and christmas I can buy a new system.

Hi.

First of all, it's good to see that CA is still alive. It took long enough for Oblivion to make a dedicated linux server.

To generate traffic to this site... that's a hard one. The best way might be to keep a NWN2 server online and the players would become familiar with CA, and they would see an URL to this site. I haven't played NWN2 online for a long time, so I don't know how big it is at the moment.

Edit: Oops,  I mean Obsidian, not Oblivion

ChaoticAbyss as a NWN server has been offline for a while now. Since NWN2 is going to release a Linux Dedicated Server, I am going to go ahead and shift the focus of this website. I will probably do this later this year. What I would like to know is what do you think would generate traffic to the site? What would get people to come back and participate?

Also please help support CA. The hardware is old and is starting to fail more often.  U know wat 2 do.

Cheers,
Podilarius

A basic server sounds nice to me. We could see if it actually works.

PS. Hi everyone, it's been a while.

easiest way is to add the server executable to the exeception list. Then you only have to deal with the router/nat/firewall on it for port forwarding. This is unless your windoz boxen has a live internet address.
